You have no doubt experienced parking at UCF and know what it’s like to drive around for 20 minutes looking for a spot. Most students live within 4 miles of the University, a distance that you can travel in nearly the same time by bike as by car. Save your time and money, and get some exercise at the same time, by learning to confidently drive your bike around UCF.

You will learn strategies for safe, stress-free integrated cycling and come away with the tools to read and problem-solve any new traffic situation or road configuration.

It’s finally cooling off!  And that means it’s time to get ready to ride in Central Florida. Come gain the confidence to go wherever you wish by taking CyclingSavvy on November 4th & 5th.

Weekend Package:

Friday 11/4 6-9PM (location to be determined, but it will be in or near downtown Orlando)

Saturday 11/5 8 AM-4:00 PM (with a lunch break); all day class includes Train Your Bike and Tour of Orlando.

CyclingSavvy is supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s first Central Florida cycling event by providing distance training to ride participants. The training rides will include some essential road skills to prepare riders for road features they will encounter during the event. Training begins this Sunday, August 28. The schedule and start locations for the next 6 Sundays are as follows:

• 8/28 – Cady Way Trailhead Orlando Fashion Square – 35 mile ride
• 9/4 – Cady Way Park in Winter Park – 45 mile ride
• 9/11 – Starbucks in Longwood at the intersection of Markham Woods, 434 and the Seminole Wekiva Trail – 55 mile ride
• 9/18 – Loch Haven Park in Orlando – 65 mile ride
• 9/25 – Sanlando Park in Altamonte – 75 mile ride
• 10/2 – Shoppes of Sweetwater – Publix Shopping Center at the corner of Hunt Club Blvd and Wekiva Springs Rd – 60 mile ride (hilly)

Truth & Techniques of Traffic Cycling (classroom session) will be offered at Metroplan Orlando from 6-9PM on Friday, September 16.

Train Your Bike (bike handling session) will be held at the old Orlando Arena from 8-11 AM on Saturday, September 17.

Tour of Orlando session will begin in Colonialtown (12:30-4PM) Saturday, September 17. (completion of other two sessions is required to take this one).

All day students will ride as a group from the Arena to lunch (Baja Burrito in Colonial Plaza). All group riding is done at a speed that is comfortable for the slowest rider (this is typically about 9-10mph). The Tour class begins at Colonial Plaza and ends back at the Arena. The all day course is a lot of fun for the camaraderie, but it is physically and mentally demanding.

For those who have taken an entry-level LAB course, CyclingSavvy is more advanced traffic cycling instruction. We’ve simply engineered the learning curve to bring novices up to that level quickly. It’s 100% traffic cycling, no mechanics, accessories, nutrition or naming the parts of the bike. The classroom session is fun, enlightening and engaging!
