John Brooking
CyclingSavvy Instructor(20+ years, year-round, all weather)
John has biked for work and other transportation for over 20 years, between 3-4 thousand miles per year. He lives in Westbrook, Maine, with his wife Mary, a visual artist, and teaches CyclingSavvy courses in the Portland area.
John believes that cycling for transportation can be a realistic option for many people in urban areas, whether they realize it or not, and wishes more people felt empowered to try it. That is what continues to motivate him as a CyclingSavvy instructor. He is also certified to do educational activities for children, both speaking presentations and “bike rodeos”, with the Bicycle Coalition of Maine (BCM). John serves on several local committees including the BCM Legislative and Policy Committee, the Portland Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee, and the Westbrook Safe Mobility and Access Committee (WSMAC).
In his other lives, he makes his living doing Information Technology for a paper company, and enjoys playing music, currently on trombone with a Portland street band. He is married with two young adult sons.
